Well, this past weekend was a bittersweet reunion with the Land of Enchantment – Santa Fe, New Mexico. It’s where I fell in love with the mountains of the southwestern United States, and, in the summer of 1990, working as an electrician for the Santa Fe Opera, it’s where I fell in love with my wife. And it’s where Brenda is right now.

Six years of marriage today, and closing in on sixteen years of being together! Happy Anniversary to us.

Brenda has been busy working a couple of jobs, and I was fairly convinced that this weekend she’d be working all weekend. So when I hiked up to Bear Peak via the Fern Canyon Trail yesterday, I really didn’t mind that my knee joints were solidifying as I sat on the couch last night. I figured I was done with physical exertion for the weekend. Imagine my surprise when Brenda emerged from her shop last night, having completed all tasks, and was all excited about going hiking on Sunday (today).

Today, a co-worker shared some of his recordings from when he was in a band. They had toured for a couple years, playing mostly in the Atlanta area, and were reasonably competent. A discussion arose regarding band names; I may have possibly brought it up.

Last week, I got all excited about Apple’s announcement of BootCamp, their beta software that would allow one to configure a new Intel Macintosh computer as a dual-boot configuration, allowing users to run WindowsXP on their Macs. This is exciting because even though I love Apple and OSX for just abut everything, my daily workflow involves creating 3D architectural models with a little program called AutoCAD, which is Windows-only. There has always been that missing void in my Mac’s capability.

This evening Brenda & I went to hear Paul Rusesabagina speak at the University of Colorado’s Macky Auditorium.

In what amounts to a complete one-eighty move, Apple has decided to endorse the installation of Windows XP on the new Intel Macs. Wow.

So, Thursday morning Brenda says: “what are you doing for lunch today, I’ve been working from home all week and I need to get outta the house. Let’s have lunch today.”

It’s not that it’s always crowded, it’s not the hypocrisy of their touting sustainability while selling Chilean Tomatoes in the Garden State, it’s not the fact that they charge five clams for a tomato and cheese sandwich. The real problem with Whole Foods, at least here at the Boulder branch, is that the entire joint is crawling with two kinds of people, both of whom are irritating to the point that they give me a headache.

According to my friend Paul in this post, he was obligated to post an anti-war song on his blog, and having read that I’m obligated to do the same. So:

Well, it was long overdue, but I finally got around to upgrading my WordPress installation (the software that powers this blog) to the latest version. This also allowed me to install the latest version of Spam Karma, a comment spam moderation tool. Yesterday I got about 80 comment spams, and what really pissed me off was that about half of them were posted to my friend Bil’s memorial post and one of the posts I wrote during my dad’s demise. Spammers suck.

Peter Tomarken, the host of the 80’s TV game show “Press Your Luck”, got himself and his wife killed in a plane crash the other day. The ultimate whammy.

This past weekend Brenda & I hiked up to Bear Peak, one of the three major peaks in the immediate vicinity of Boulder. It was awesome.

Well, it’s been a few days now, and I have good news and bad news about the new MacBook Pro.

It’s here! My new MacBook Pro! OS X running on a dual-core Intel. Backlit keyboard. 15.4” screen. Friggin’ great.

When Garmin’s G1000 “glass cockpit” instrumentation system came out last year, I sort-of did a “whatever”. At the time, I still owned niner-three-fox, my beloved little 1966 Cessna 150 with basic cockpit instrumentation (and my handheld Garmin 196 which was impressive enough). The G1000 is something on the order of a $60K option on new aircraft, and I figured I’d never fly behind one of those. Hence my blase attitude about how cool they may be.

This weekend, the second annual Boulder International Film Festival hit town, and Brenda & I took full advantage, taking in two feature-length films and watching a program of short films yesterday afternoon. Everything we saw was shown at the fabulous Boulder Theatre, a quirky old joint downtown with a great old marquee, uncomfortable seats, and a full service bar. Boulder does everything differently.

Our dear friend Patty from New Jersey came to visit us this past weekend, direct from Hoboken, NJ, birthplace of Frank Sinatra and baseball, and the place Brenda & I called home for eight years or so. Patty brought a gift, one that took thought and compassion for our current situation, and we appreciated it deeply.
