So, this blog is old. Life and social media have conspired to reduce my posting frequency to nearly nothing over the last decade. But I want to get it going again, so all the old stuff is reproduced here and I will add more as I can. Favorites that I forgot I even wrote linked below.

Good News & Bad News

The good news is I spent this past entire weekend with friends and family. The bad news is the goodbyes at the end of the days had a little more significance.

Sales Pitch

“OK, so I want to have a brokers-only open house on Tuesday…”

So Long, Friend

Well, that’s that. In a few more days, I won’t be able to call myself an aircraft owner anymore. Niner three foxtrot, my little Cessna 150, won’t be joining us in Boulder.

Back in the saddle

Sitting at my desk, eating lunch, looking for something to read online, I put this search term into Google: “cycling in boulder”. The wealth of decent links was impressive, but this one gave me goosebumps. I knew that Boulder was a cycling hotbed, but the sheer mass of cycling talent that resides in the Boulder area is like a who’s who of American cycling. The story specifically talks about a lot of the riders who were great when I was really into road racing, back in the mid-80’s. Guys like Andy Hampsten, Davis Phinney and Ron Kiefel – the old seven-eleven team, remember? Somewhere I still have some old copies of “Winning” and “Bicycling” with their pictures in them, and now these guys are going to be my neighbors.

Boulder Bound

The cat’s outta the bag: my boss knows, my friends & family know; now the occasional websurfer who stumbles onto this site will also know: I’m moving to Boulder, Colorado.

The Battle is Joined

This is war, a fight to the end. Hundreds of battles have already been waged, and many more will ensue. I only hope that Emma can climb to a more respectable record on kittenwar.com.

One Year Gone

Anniversary; time to remember. The thing is, I never forgot. Hell, I kept the voice mail on my cell phone, the one from my half-sister that said “Dad’s taken a turn” for weeks. I listened to it a few times before finally deleting it. I guess I wanted to relive those moments because, while they were filled with tension, they also ticked by while Dad was still alive.

Look

OK, at long last, I have a proper photo section on this site. The Italy trip photos were the impetus, but I have some other photo albums there for your enjoyment as well. I hope to add more albums, and captions to the photos that are there, sometime in the future.

The Last of the Firsts

For the last eleven months, I’ve waddled through Life Without Dad, hitting one “first” after another. The first Father’s Day Without Dad, the first Christmas Eve Without Dad, etc, have all come and gone, including the First Birthday Without–both his and mine. I thought I was all done.

A New Definition of Pocket Square

So, I’m in the deli the other day, and a guy comes in and orders a bagel, toasted, with cream cheese, for lunch. The thing is, as the guy behind the counter is turning to grab a bagel and make his order, the guy ordering pulls two slices of American cheese from his pocket and goes: “and hey, melt these on it too, huh?”

How badly do you have this disease?

I am: 7% Republican.“You’re a complete liberal, utterly without a trace of Republicanism. Your strength is as the strength of ten because your heart is pure. (You hope.)” Phew, that’s a relief. OK, who’s next? (Thanks, Paul).

Attention Passengers

“Attention New Jersey Transit Rail Passengers: We still, like, totally suck.”

Listen Up

Music was such a big part of my life for a while, and then it really wasn’t for a while. But it’s always been there. A chronology may help you to understand how my musical taste has evolved over time. It’s something I’ve been wanting to add to this site for a while, and so I’m happy to announce a new section called “Listen” (see link in the main menu, above).

Music

Music was such a big part of my life for a while, and then it really wasn’t for a while. But it’s always been there. A chronology may help you to understand how my musical taste evolved over time. At least it was fun putting it all down on paper.

Oops

This weekend Brenda & I booked our hotel rooms for our Italy trip! Things are falling into place, and we’re starting to think about the specifics of what we’ll see each day in Italy instead of the logistics of getting there.

Italy

It’s been on the “boy it’d be really great to do” list for some time, but next month we’re actually going to do it. Brenda & I are going to Italy (pronounced–if you are an Italian living in New York–“IT-lee”).
