Bend it Like Beckham
Brenda & I watched this movie last night. Good. Watch.
Ordinarily I’d cry foul, because you can see in the first five minutes that the flick is a rehash of the now-proven formula of trotting out (and celebrating) the peculiarities of cultures, which seem to be amplified any time someone gets married. This formula was made famous by Nia Vardolos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but I still think that Nancy Savoca’s True Love is funnier.
But now we have Gurinder Chadha, showing the world that it’s not just us Italians, or the Greeks; the Indians are all crazy too. There is highly quotable material in this film, and many lovable characters.
Fun film. Watch.
